The aim of the conference is to introduce and clarify the concepts of “governance” and “good governance” in Estonia and to analyze how to apply these concepts in practice. This will include discussing both positive and negative aspects of applying the concepts. Conference will be organized on May 25th, 2004.

Prof. Dr. Martin Doornbos from Institute of Social Studies, Hague and Prof. Dr. Christoph Knill from University of Konstanz have been invited to the conference to introduce governance and good governance issues. Prof. Wolfgang Drechsler (University of Tartu/PRAXIS) and Prof Rainer Kattel (Tallinn Technical University/PRAXIS) will join the conference to contribute with the Estonian views and examples of governance and good governance. At the end of the conference, the roundtable is planned with the participants from current government coalition, top businessman and top representatives of Estonian NGOs. Conference will be moderated by Dr Vello Pettai. The conference is directed to the main decision makers from public, private and non-profit sectors.

Outcomes of the project also include conference proceedings both in English (a special version of TRAMES) and Estonian. English version of the book shall also be distributed in other Central, Eastern and South European countries to contribute to the wider understanding of the concepts.
