One way to break down stereotypes that reproduce gender inequalities in society and to prevent them from being passed on to young people is to train teachers and provide them with a good knowledge of gender equality, equal opportunities and gender-based violence. Therefore, it is important to integrate the topics of gender equality and equal opportunities into the curricula, teaching materials, courses and modules of teacher education.

The aim of the study was to find out what are the attitudes and knowledge of Estonian teachers about this topic, what projects and activities for teachers have already been implemented, and how these topics are reflected in teacher education and training (in curricula, subjects, study materials). The study provides an insight into the extent to which teachers have been prepared for teaching gender equality, equal treatment and gender-based violence, and what needs to be changed in training curricula and subjects to ensure a more systematic approach to gender equality and equal treatment in the future.
