In 2016 Estonia is taking part in an international student survey EUROSTUDENT which is carried out already for the sixth time all over Europe. In May 2016 students can contribute to higher education policy by replying to different questions about their study and living conditions, time budget, mobility, income and expenditure, satisfaction with studies and other important topics related to their experiences of participating in higher education. The results of the study will be used by the Ministry of Education and Research in their policy making process.
Students invited to participate in the survey are chosen based on a random sample from all higher education institutions in Estonia. The personal link to the questionnaire will be sent to these students in May 2016. The survey can be filled in in Estonian, ENglish or Russian. Students participating in the survey can win an iPad or an iPhone.
EUROSTUDENT survey is carried out in Estonia in cooperation between Praxis Center for Policy Studies and the Ministry of Education and Research.
What are the topics covered?
This survey covers your current study situation, your plans for further studies, your study background, living conditions, expenses, time budget, long-term and short-term study mobility, as well as employment.
Why is it important to participate?
The more there are students participating, the more we can understand your situation! A high response rate ensures that we get the whole picture of the students’ situation and this will allow us to make recommendations and suggestions to improve education in Estonia for all the coming generations!
How long does it take to fill out the online survey?
The time it takes to fill out the questionnaire depends on your situation; it can take between 20-40 minutes. You can pause and continue at any time.
The questionnaire is accessible from laptops, tablets or smart phone.
Who will be participating in this survey?
Students from all ages, programmes, and nationalities, currently studying in higher education in Estonia will be asked to fill out the survey. Students from 29 European countries will be filling out the survey as well. Last time, 210,000 students from all over Europe participated!
How and when will you be contacted?
You will receive the link to the online questionnaire via email which will be sent in May 2016 either by the education institution you currently attend or Praxis Center for Policy Studies.
The survey can be filled in Estonian, English or Russian.
What will happen to the information collected?
The data obtained from the survey will be treated in a confidential and anonymous manner. Your answers cannot be traced back to you neither by your institution nor by the researchers.
After the data collected is analysed, a report will be published in spring 2018, comparing responses from all the participating countries. A national report to present the situation in Estonia will also be available in autumn 2017.
WHAT IS EUROSTUDENT?
EUROSTUDENT is a research project that aims to collect and compare reliable data on the social dimension of European higher education. It focuses on the socio-economic background and on the living conditions of students, but it also investigates temporary international mobility, in order to assess the effectiveness of different higher education policy measures (e.g. student allowances, demand for accommodation, a link between teaching and results etc). The project strives to provide reliable and insightful cross-country comparisons.
It does this through coupling a central coordination approach with a strong network of national partners in each participating country. In this way, an assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of the respective national frameworks in international comparison can be made.
The main users of our findings are higher education policy-makers at national and European level, researchers in this field, managers of higher education institutions and – of course – students all over Europe.
The sixth round of EUROSTUDENT began in January 2016 and will be completed in May 2018. The results will be published in spring 2018.
