The report deals with the importance of pharmacies and pharmaceutical policy in health care sustainability as well as with current pharmacy service role in primary care. Foreign literature and examples of international pharmacy service development experience are used. Some illustrative scenarios of pharmacy service development possibilities and sectoral development preconditions are also presented.

The main conclusion is that today it is easier to integrate pharmacy service with primary and health care system. Successful integration can increase cost-effectiveness and have a positive impact on public health. However, pharmacy service, primary care as well as pharmaceutical policy regulations need further analysis in order to provide help in attaining necessary objectives in health care and sustaining population health.
